Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. There are so many different dishes that you can eat after getting up. And precisely because breakfast is so important for a good start to the day, you should pay attention to what you eat.
It is not impossible to eat healthily and still have a tasty and balanced breakfast.
Today we will introduce you to some options for avoiding added sugars at breakfast time or perhaps even eating a completely sugar-free diet in the morning.
Low-sugar breakfast from Verival
The sugar we consume in the morning affects our body throughout the whole day. So if you already have a 'sweet' breakfast in the morning, it affects the whole day and you always have a great desire for other sugar products.
Often, the industrial sugar content in yoghurt or breakfast cereals is very high (up to 34%!). However, the easily digestible carbohydrates in conventional sugar are quickly broken down, leaving you feeling hungry again quickly.
You never feel full for long, so you tend to eat more during the day. This is often difficult to reconcile with a diet. But how can you prevent it? And what can you eat without consuming sugar as soon as you get up?
Sweet, but without added sugar
Just because something is sugar-free doesn't mean it can't taste good. At breakfast time, many people like to eat jam and honey to start the day on a sweet note.
But how can you avoid being exposed to industrial sugar at the first meal of the day?
1. Cereal with fruit and yoghurt
When it comes to muesli, you should make sure you have the unsweetened variety at home. The same goes for yoghurt, as these products can very often contain added sugar.
Plain muesli tastes best when you soak it a little beforehand. If you would like it a little sweeter, you can always add a dash of coconut or almond milk and a hint of cinnamon. In our range, you will find several muesli varieties without added sugar!

2. Any kind of porridge
Porridge is currently on everyone's lips and is the ultimate breakfast hype. It is now widely known that porridge is healthy. What's more, porridge is pretty easy to prepare. If you're watching your calories, you can simply prepare the porridge with water.
To improve the taste even more, you can add fresh fruit. But our favorite is porridge with almond or coconut milk. A pinch of cinnamon and you have a sweet breakfast that is not dependent on industrial sugar.
With our organic porridges, we ensure a low sugar content and a delicious taste with high-quality organic ingredients.

3. Overnight oats
Many people don't have much time in the morning to prepare their porridge on the stove or with hot water (even if it really doesn't take long). One way around this is to make overnight oats. If you soak the flakes in liquid overnight, they will be just as tasty as if you made them fresh in the morning. You take a bowl, fill it with porridge, cover it with liquid – and in the morning you have a delicious porridge, without any stress. For even better overnight oats, add a pinch of salt, cinnamon and possibly a dash of peanut butter (organic).
But it is also possible to have a completely sugar-free diet in the morning
But if you want to avoid all types of sugar in the morning and maximize your healthy nutrition, here are some ideas:
1. Brown bread with various toppings
A classic. Brown bread itself is very healthy and nutritious. It is best enjoyed paired with a delicious topping.
Here, for example, you can go for cheese – with so many different types available, you won't get bored quickly and you can enjoy a great taste experience. For vegans, there are also plenty of alternatives such as humus or lentil spreads.
2. Eggs in every form
Not really suitable for vegans – the egg. Eggs contain no sugar and are an extremely nutritious, sugar-free alternative for the morning. Be it a hard- or soft-boiled egg, scrambled eggs, fried egg or an omelette.
With eggs, you can let your imagination run wild. Just a fried egg with salt and pepper? Scrambled eggs with vegetables? Or maybe an omelet with finely chopped spring onions? There should be something for everyone here.
If you also want to pay attention to sustainability, it's best to buy eggs locally or at least make sure that the eggs in the supermarket are organic and free-range.
3. Avocado
Last but not least, we have a superfood on our list: the avocado. With lots of natural fats, the avocado is a great source of energy. What's more, 100 grams of avocado already covers 30% of your daily vitamin K requirement.
Furthermore, the avocado aids digestion and contains many antioxidants. As a small extra bonus, the avocado also lowers cholesterol. The avocado has truly earned the title of superfood. You can prepare avocado as a spread for bread or directly from the shell with a little oil and salt.
As you can see, there are actually many breakfast options without added sugar. Our contribution gives a little insight and should serve as a suggestion. If we have whetted your appetite for more, please visit our shop.
